National Bank of Ukraine updates 2000 hryvnia banknote font over Russian connection

Ukraine's National Bank will change the font on the 2000 hryvnia banknote featuring Vasyl Stus due to its similarity to a Russian-origin font. The decision follows concerns raised by designers about the font's resemblance to a Cyrillic adaptation created by a Russian designer. The NBU stated it's unacceptable for elements of the banknote, dedicated to Stus, to be associated with the aggressor country. The new font will fully align with the official Cyrillic version of Bickham Script. The banknote is scheduled for release on September 4, 2026, and the font change will not affect this timeline.
