NASA transitions International Space Station operations to private companies by 2030

NASA will decommission the International Space Station by 2030, transitioning its role in low-Earth orbit to private companies. SpaceX will develop a vehicle for a controlled deorbit of the ISS into a remote ocean area, with most of the station expected to burn up during reentry. NASA plans to shift its focus to lunar and Martian exploration, while private entities like Blue Origin and Nanoracks are developing new commercial space stations.
