NASA reveals gravity waves from Hurricane Helene in new images
NASA has released new images showing gravity waves generated by Hurricane Helene, which struck the southeastern U.S. in late September. The storm, a Category 4 hurricane, caused significant flooding and power outages across the region. The Atmospheric Waves Experiment (AWE) aboard the International Space Station captured these images, demonstrating its ability to study atmospheric effects from hurricanes. The gravity waves were detected high above the storm clouds, providing insights into how such storms impact the atmosphere. This data is among the first publicly available from AWE, which launched in November 2022. The images reveal the complex interactions between hurricanes and atmospheric conditions, enhancing understanding of weather phenomena.
