NASA plans lunar homes built by 3D-printing robots for future astronauts
NASA is advancing plans for astronauts to live in homes built by giant 3D-printing robots on the Moon. This initiative, called Project Olympus, aims to use lunar rock for construction, reducing the need to transport materials from Earth. The Texas-based company Icon, which has received significant funding from NASA, is leading the project. Icon previously created a simulated Martian habitat and is now focused on developing not just homes, but also landing pads and roads for future lunar missions. However, NASA's Artemis program has faced delays. The crewed Artemis III mission, originally set for 2026, is now postponed to at least mid-2027. The Artemis II test flight has also been pushed back to April 2026 at the earliest due to ongoing technical work.
