Nantes high school fire causes at least €2 million in damage
A fire at the Lycée Nelson Mandela in Nantes has caused at least two million euros in damage, according to the Pays de la Loire region. The school's entrance hall was completely destroyed, forcing its closure until the All Saints' holiday. The region announced that classes will be held remotely and that laptop distribution to all second-year students will be accelerated to facilitate this. Expert assessments are scheduled for next week to determine the full extent of the damage, particularly to the roof structure. Several other Nantes schools are also closed until Tuesday for safety reasons. The total cost of repairs across the region is estimated at three million euros, with twelve schools significantly damaged. Students expressed dismay and distanced themselves from the violent actions, while a parent described the incident as an organized attack. The mayor of Nantes called the targeting of educational institutions unacceptable.
