Namibia MPs move to remove National Assembly Speaker

A motion to remove National Assembly Speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was introduced on Wednesday by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), which accuses her of failing to apply parliamentary rules fairly and impartially. IPC member Michael Mulunga moved the motion under Article 51(3) of the Constitution. IPC official opposition leader Imms Nashinge stated the motion targets the speaker's conduct, not her character, citing two incidents this year where the house failed to function. The IPC referenced disrupted proceedings on 17 June over speaker rulings and a 10 July incident where opposition MPs withdrew, causing a lack of quorum. The motion's outcome remains pending.
