Namibia employers support breastfeeding at work, but seek flexible rules

Namibia's employers' federation supports workplace breastfeeding help but warns a one-size-fits-all mandate would be impractical for many businesses. Responding to Deputy Health Minister Suzan Ndjaleka's call for breastfeeding corners and flexible hours, federation president Elia Shikongo said arrangements must suit each employer's size, resources and operating conditions. He called the minister's remarks an appeal, not a legal obligation. Ndjaleka spoke during World Breastfeeding Week; similar appeals followed a 2024 study showing many women lack workplace support. Shikongo urged ministries to clarify proposals and consult both sides before new policies.
