Mylapore man sentenced to life for 2001 bomb attack
A man has been sentenced to life in prison for a bomb attack on police officers that took place in 2001. The attack occurred in Mylapore, where two policemen and another person were injured by a country-made bomb. On June 7, 2001, police responded to a disturbance at a house on Muthuraman Street. Four people were reportedly causing trouble over a money-related dispute. While investigating the situation, two of the suspects threw a bomb at the police, injuring a sub-inspector, a head constable, and a civilian. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with the attack. In 2016, three of them received 10-year sentences. Unfortunately, two others died during the trial, and one remains at large. The main accused, known as Murugan, was found guilty by a special court that deals with bomb blast cases. In addition to life imprisonment, he was also fined ₹11,000.
