Myanmar air strike kills 15 civilians in Kachin state market, says rebel group
A Myanmar junta air strike on Saturday killed at least 15 civilians and injured 10 others in a market in Kachin state, according to the Kachin Independence Army. The attack targeted a gold-mining area, affecting local miners and shopkeepers. This incident is part of ongoing violence as the junta faces resistance following its 2021 coup. The KIA, which has been fighting for autonomy, controls significant areas in Kachin state, rich in jade and other resources. In a separate incident, the Arakan Army reported that the junta dropped 15 bombs on a public market in Kyauktaw, Arakan State, resulting in civilian casualties. The junta has not commented on these attacks.
