Musk's Terafab Chip Factory Faces Trademark Lawsuit Over Name

Elon Musk's companies SpaceX, Tesla, and SpaceXAI filed a trademark lawsuit Tuesday against Illinois-based Tera-Print over the use of the name "Terafab" for Musk's planned chip factory. Tera-Print sent a cease-and-desist letter in May claiming the Terafab name infringes on its TERA-FAB trademark for photolithography machines. Musk's companies argue no confusion exists since Terafab focuses on large-scale chip production, while Tera-Print sells tabletop printers for laboratory applications. Tera-Print's CTO says the company has used TERA-FAB for over 10 years and holds a Defense Department contract for semiconductor fabrication. Both companies have registered the name with the USPTO for different goods, and SpaceX and Tesla seek a court ruling that their use does not infringe.
