Mural honors sculptor Giuseppe Pezzica in Carrara's Cafaggio

A mural by artist Maria Ginzburg, titled "Nel solco della memoria," was inaugurated yesterday in Cafaggio, Carrara, in memory of sculptor Giuseppe Pezzica. The 9-by-3-meter work stands before the house where he lived. The initiative was promoted by Carrara Unesco during the C/Art festival, based on an idea from Pezzica's son, Gianpaolo. The mural depicts oxen used for marble transport, reflecting Pezzica's engraving style with a contemporary touch. Pezzica was a key figure in Carrara's first sculpture Biennales from 1957 to 1972 and curated the marble museum's interior in 1968. Gianpaolo will donate six more works to the Bergiola museum on September 16.
