Mumbai Property Registrations Hit 14-Year August High; Stamp Duty Collections Cross Rs 1,100 Crore

Mumbai is projected to record 12,503 property registrations in August 2026, an 11% year-on-year increase and the highest August level in over 14 years, with stamp duty collections expected to cross Rs 1,100 crore. The Maharashtra government is expected to collect around Rs 1,123 crore in stamp duty revenue, a 12% rise from Rs 1,000 crore in August 2025. However, activity moderated month-on-month, with registrations projected to decline 10% from July 2026's 13,824 units. The August projection surpasses the previous August record of 11,631 registrations set in 2024. Knight Frank India's Shishir Baijal attributed the strong annual growth to sustained homebuyer interest, noting that well-located developments with quality infrastructure remain attractive.
