Mumbai bullet train station lays first concrete slab as construction progresses
The first concrete slab for the Mumbai Bullet Train station was successfully laid on November 30, 2024. This underground station, part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, is the first of 69 slabs needed and is located 32 meters deep. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized the previous Congress-led government for delays in infrastructure projects, including the bullet train. The project, approved in 2015, was originally set for completion in 2023, but the Surat to Bilimora stretch is now expected to launch by 2026. The station will feature six platforms, each 415 meters long, and will connect to Metro Line 2B. Construction involves significant excavation and advanced temperature control measures during concrete pouring.
