MSC Irina is world's largest container ship launched

The MSC Irina, the world's largest container ship, has officially entered service. It measures 399.9 meters long and can carry over 24,300 containers, surpassing the previous record-holder by more than 150 TEU. The ship, weighing over 200,000 gross tonnes, is on its maiden voyage to Valencia, Spain, and is expected to arrive on March 3. It is part of a series of six ships built by China's Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group. Despite its size, the MSC Irina emits 3-4 percent less carbon than similar vessels. It is operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, which has a significant global presence in container shipping.
