Mother and boyfriend sentenced in death of Ontario toddler Oliver McCarthy

Oliver McCarthy, a 22-month-old boy, was found dead in his Ontario home in January 2020. An autopsy revealed he died from blunt force trauma and previous injuries. His mother and her boyfriend were convicted for his death. Before his death, Oliver had been hospitalized for bruises, prompting a child abuse investigation. Despite concerns, he was allowed to live with his mother, which his family claims led to further neglect. Both his mother and her boyfriend received prison sentences in 2024. The boy's maternal grandparents face charges related to neglect, with a court date set for December 13.
