More flooding expected in England and Wales after Storm Bert brings heavy rain
More flooding is expected this week in England and Wales after Storm Bert caused significant rainfall over the weekend. Environment Secretary Steve Reed noted that the impact should be less severe than the flooding experienced on Sunday and Monday. Warnings remain in place, with 132 flood alerts across England and six in Wales. A severe flood warning is active for the River Nene in Northamptonshire. The Met Office forecasts more heavy rain and possible strong winds starting Tuesday night. Former Environment Agency chair Emma Howard Boyd highlighted insufficient funding for flood defense maintenance. She emphasized the need to address surface water flooding, which accounts for 60% of flooding incidents.
