Montpellier's mayor has congratulated municipal police officers who arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting shopkeepers in the city center after a month-long manhunt. The suspect was captured July 21 on Cours Gambetta after a chase, having fallen from a roof and injured his ankle. He was under an obligation to leave France and was placed in administrative detention pending expulsion. Victims, who shared information via WhatsApp and reported identical methods, praised agent Hugo Mikart's work. The GSO, a specialized rapid-intervention unit created in 2024, handled the operation.
