Modena honors Guido De Maria with permanent memorial promise

The funeral of Guido De Maria, the creator of SuperGulp! and co-creator of Nick Carter, was held as a celebration of his life, filled with art, music, and applause rather than traditional mourning. His daughter Anna Lisa and the community of Modena gathered to honor the beloved cartoonist. The ceremony at Terracielo featured tenor performances by Massimiliano Barbolini and Claudio Mattioli, with songs including "O surdat 'nammurato" and "Nessuno dorma," ending in a collective round of applause. Anna Lisa remembered her father with pride and humor, noting he chose to die on the last day of August to spare everyone an early return from vacation. Mayor Massimo Mezzetti promised a permanent memorial space for De Maria and other recently lost Modenese cultural figures like Franco Fontana and Francesco Guccini, likely at the Ago area in the former Sant'Agostino complex. Hans Peter Dejakum of Loacker also paid tribute, recalling their thirty-year collaboration.
