A mobile wallet is an electronic version of payment credential storage that allows cardholders to make purchases using a mobile device instead of a physical card, cash, or checks. Cardholders can store payment credentials with providers such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. The primary use has been at retail, but availability is expanding for mobile apps and online purchases. Wallets can also store eligible retailer loyalty cards, airline tickets, and event tickets. The term is used interchangeably with digital wallet, though mobile wallet is preferred since these options are used primarily with mobile devices.
