Miyagi faces heavy rain Monday with risk of linear precipitation bands

Miyagi Prefecture is forecast to experience heavy rain on Monday, September 7, due to an autumn rain front and warm, moist air, with the risk of linear precipitation bands from morning to evening. The Japan Meteorological Agency's Sendai office has issued a warning that linear precipitation bands could form, potentially causing a rapid increase in disaster risk. Up to 200 millimeters of rain is expected in 24 hours, which is roughly the average rainfall for the entire month of September in Sendai. This would be the first confirmed occurrence of linear precipitation bands in Miyagi since the system began in 2021, though similar events in 2015 and 2019 triggered heavy rain emergency warnings. Residents are urged to check hazard maps and prepare for evacuation.
