MIT researchers developed a noninvasive device using Raman spectroscopy to measure blood glucose levels, potentially eliminating the need for finger pricks for diabetes patients. The shoebox-sized device analyzes chemical compositions in tissue by shining light on the skin. Tests on a healthy volunteer showed accuracy comparable to invasive continuous glucose monitors. The team has since created a smaller, wearable prototype and plans larger clinical studies with diabetes patients, aiming for a watch-sized device.
