Mistral AI releases Devstral, open-source coding agent

Mistral AI has launched Devstral, a new open-source software engineering (SWE) agent model, capable of running on laptops. The model is designed for agentic AI development and is available under the permissive Apache 2.0 license. Devstral, with 24 billion parameters, outperforms other open-source models and some closed models on SWE benchmarks. It is optimized to act as a full software engineering agent, capable of understanding context and resolving issues. The model is also designed to integrate with agentic frameworks. The model is available via API or for local deployment, making it suitable for privacy-sensitive use cases. Mistral AI is also working on a larger follow-up model.
