Milan babysitter murder trial reveals victim's mother was killed by her father in El Salvador

ilgiorno.it (Italian) —

A Milan court has heard that Johanna Nataly Quintanilla, a 40-year-old babysitter murdered by her ex-boyfriend in January 2025, was herself orphaned by femicide after her father killed her mother in El Salvador. Her killer, Pablo Gonzalez Rivas, now faces life imprisonment. Gonzalez Rivas attacked Quintanilla on the night of January 24, 2025, after she refused to leave their shared apartment. He struck her repeatedly with an awl, beat her, and then placed her body in a suitcase, which he dumped in the Adda river before going for breakfast with friends. The trial has heard the defense claim Quintanilla died during an erotic game, a theory the judge dismissed by moving directly to closing arguments. Friends testified that Gonzalez Rivas had resumed contact with another woman and had been abusive toward Quintanilla for years.
