Microsoft unveils Magentic-One, a new open-source multi-agent AI platform

Microsoft Research has launched Magentic-One, an open-source multi-agent AI platform designed to handle complex tasks across various fields. This system allows developers to create applications that can autonomously manage multi-step processes. Magentic-One features a modular architecture with a lead orchestrator agent coordinating specialized agents for tasks like web browsing, file management, and coding. This flexibility enables easy addition or removal of agents without disrupting the overall system. To assess its performance, Microsoft introduced AutoGenBench, which evaluates Magentic-One against benchmarks for multi-step planning and tool usage. The platform competes well with other state-of-the-art methods, according to Microsoft’s October 2024 data.
