Microsoft to support discrete GPUs for AI PCs early next year
Microsoft plans to support discrete graphics processing units (GPUs) for both desktop and mobile PCs early next year. This will expand the capabilities of new AI PCs, which currently rely on integrated systems-on-chip for AI performance. New mobile AI PCs from major brands like Acer and Dell have been available since June, using Microsoft’s Copilot+ and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processors. A new wave of PCs with AMD and Intel chips is launching now, with Copilot+ support expected in November. The addition of discrete GPU support will create a new category of "Enthusiast AI PCs." This change will enhance AI processing capabilities and enable existing PCs with discrete GPUs to be classified as Copilot+ PCs, expanding the potential for AI applications.
