Mets to recall Jonah Tong for Miami series

nypost.com

Jonah Tong is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse next week to pitch for the Mets during their series in Miami, according to an organizational source. The 23-year-old rookie has dominated in his past four starts for Syracuse, posting a 0.84 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks over 21 1/3 innings, including carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Aug. 29. Interim manager Andy Green said Tong would likely join as part of an extended rotation. Tong, the organization's second-rated pitching prospect, was briefly with the Mets earlier this season with a 3.60 ERA in three bulk relief appearances. Meanwhile, closer Devin Williams has begun playing catch after a shoulder strain, and Juan Soto may return to left field this weekend.
