A new book about Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has topped the New York Times bestseller list. The book, titled "Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed and Lost Idealism," was written by Sarah Wynn-Williams and released on March 11. It quickly climbed to the top after just one week. The memoir details Wynn-Williams's experiences at Meta from 2011 to 2017. It includes serious allegations, including claims of sexual harassment by Joel Kaplan, a high-ranking executive at Meta. The book also discusses Meta's attempts to enter the Chinese market by adapting to local censorship laws. Meta has taken legal action against Wynn-Williams. The company claims her book breaches a contract she signed that prohibits negative remarks about the company. As a result, an arbitration court has barred her from promoting the book and making statements that could harm Meta's reputation. Meta's communications director, Andy Stone, defended the company, stating that Wynn-Williams was fired for poor performance. He also asserted that her allegations were unfounded. Meanwhile, another critical book about Meta, titled "The Anxious Generation," remains popular, ranking fourth on the bestseller list a year after its release.
