Meta launches Community Notes sign-ups for Facebook, Instagram, and Threads

Meta has begun accepting sign-ups for its Community Notes program on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. This change follows the company's decision to end its third-party fact-checking program, shifting to a user-driven model similar to X. Users in the U.S. who are over 18 and have accounts in good standing can sign up to contribute. Contributors can submit notes to clarify misleading posts, which must include a link and adhere to a 500-character limit. Community Notes will be rated by users, requiring agreement from those who typically disagree for publication. Meta plans to roll out this feature in the U.S. over the coming months, with no timeline for other countries.
