Meralco launches construction of world's largest solar and battery facility in the Philippines

inquirer.net

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has begun construction on the MTerra Solar Project, the world's largest integrated solar and battery storage facility, in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. The project, costing P200 billion, aims to provide clean energy to 2.4 million households by 2027. The facility will cover 3,500 hectares and include five million solar panels with a peak capacity of 3,500 megawatts. It will also feature a 4,500-megawatt hour battery storage system and 13 kilometers of transmission lines, expected to be operational by February 2027. This project is part of the Philippines' goal to increase renewable energy's share in the power generation mix to 35% by 2030. It is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 4.3 million tons annually, equivalent to removing over three million gasoline-powered vehicles from the roads.
