Men's group urges Northern Ireland to fund refuge for male abuse victims

A group supporting male domestic abuse victims urged Northern Ireland to fund a male refuge, saying men are left living in cars, tents, and derelict buildings due to a lack of options. Men’s Alliance NI met Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and other officials Wednesday. Police recorded 5,747 domestic abuse crimes with male victims in 2024/25, representing one-third of all domestic abuse victims in the region. No dedicated male refuge exists in Northern Ireland, leaving victims with extremely limited options, the Department of Justice acknowledged. The group stressed it is not seeking funding taken from women’s refuges, which should remain protected.
