Mayor steps in to teach class after teacher absence in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre

The mayor of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, Erwan Bouvais, taught a class of CM1-CM2 students on Tuesday after a teacher was absent, calling the chaotic situation "unacceptable" despite savoring the moment. Bouvais, a former middle school history-geography teacher, spent 90 minutes with the students, giving an introduction to the year and a civics lesson on the mayor's role. He took a leave from teaching to assume his elected position in March. The school's difficulties stem from losing a class due to enrollment dropping from 295 to 292 students, which also eliminated the full-time principal position. No director was named for the start of the year.
