Martin Lewis warns pensioners of £31 billion in lost pensions and offers recovery tips
Martin Lewis has alerted pensioners about over £31 billion in lost pensions, urging them to check for potentially hidden funds. He shared tips in his latest newsletter, highlighting that many people lose track of old pensions as they change jobs. Lewis recounted a reader's success story, where a woman found a pension worth £61,700 from 1998. He emphasized the importance of tracing old pensions using tools like the Pension Tracing Service and Gretal, a service launched in 2022. Additionally, Lewis encouraged people to review their State Pension forecasts. He noted that National Insurance credits, earned through work or caregiving, are crucial for maximizing State Pension benefits, which currently provide £221 per week for those qualifying.
