Marcos stresses soldiers' selflessness during Army anniversary
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the 128th anniversary celebrations of the Philippine Army on Saturday in Manila. He emphasized that soldiers should show not just courage and skill, but also a readiness to put the country's interests above their own. Marcos stated that steadfastness and commitment to serving others are crucial qualities for soldiers today. He mentioned that true leadership isn't only about rank or power. Rather, it is about the willingness to prioritize the greater good. He urged everyone to work together toward a more united, just, and peaceful nation. As the anniversary was marked, the President highlighted the importance of serving not just for personal reasons, but for future generations. He called on the government to lead by example, act with integrity, and foster peace and order, which in turn would promote knowledge and national progress. Marcos also addressed concerns surrounding the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. Some reports suggested that military resignations might follow, but the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) dismissed these claims. Col. Louie Dema-ala, a spokesperson for the Philippine Army, confirmed that no reports of resignations were received and asserted the Army's morale and professionalism remain strong. He added that the focus is on their responsibilities, with no need for loyalty checks.
