Man in Kalavryta fatally shoots stray dog outside his home

A 50-year-old man in Kleitoria, Kalavryta, Greece, is accused of fatally shooting a stray dog with his hunting rifle because its presence outside his home annoyed him. The incident has sparked shock and outrage. The man, who legally owned the weapon, fired at the animal in front of witnesses who immediately alerted authorities. After fleeing the scene, he later surrendered at the Kalavryta police station. He faces felony charges for violating animal companion killing laws, which carry severe prison sentences and heavy fines. Police seized 22 cartridges, a gun case, and three legally owned hunting rifles from the suspect's home and car. The 50-year-old is being taken to the Patras Public Prosecutor's office.
