Man charged with murder of Kenyan university lecturer Edgar Mokua

A man has been charged with the murder of Technical University of Kenya lecturer Edgar Mokua. Richard Gikuhe Mbugua denied the charge before High Court Judge Margaret Muigai, while prosecutors opposed his release on bond. Prosecutors argued it took police several weeks to apprehend Mbugua, prompting the judge to order a pre-bail report. The probation office will interview both the accused's and victim's families before deciding on bond, with the deceased's wife, a WFP employee in Kampala, among those who recorded statements. Mokua was last seen July 6, 2026, leaving his Lavington residence. His body was found at City Mortuary on July 11 after being recovered along Kamiti Road. CCTV shows him leaving Ibiza Club with a woman at 4:41am, and investigators say the same vehicle was used to dump his body.
