Man arrested in Somma Lombardo for fatal hit-and-run of mistaken rival

Mirko Bertellini, a 44-year-old from Ternate, was arrested for the voluntary homicide of Federico Venco, a 36-year-old he ran over with his car in Somma Lombardo, mistakenly believing him to be a romantic rival. The killing occurred on the night of August 1-2, when Venco stopped to help Bertellini's ex-girlfriend, who was agitated and without a phone. Bertellini, seeing them together, struck Venco with his vehicle, then attacked the woman. He has prior convictions for crimes against persons and stalking. Bertellini appeared before a judge on Tuesday for a guarantee interrogation, where he made spontaneous statements but did not answer questions. A rock and a knife were found in his car, suggesting the meeting was planned to harm his ex-partner.
