Amit Kumar, 43, was arrested for creating a fake Instagram account of Uttar Pradesh's police chief, Prashant Kumar. The account gained 76,000 followers and was used to solicit donations for a victim of a Jaipur accident. Kumar built the account in 2022, using photos from the DGP's official visits to make it appear legitimate. He also created a fake YouTube account and managed to get the Instagram account verified with a blue tick. The police began investigating after a case was filed on December 30, 2024. Kumar was arrested in Saharanpur and was found with an iPhone 13 Pro Max.
