Malaysia delays Senior Citizens Bill to 2027 for stakeholder input

The tabling of Malaysia's Senior Citizens Bill has been delayed from October to early 2027 to incorporate stakeholder feedback, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri announced. The draft was initially complete but required amendments. The ministry paused the process after engagement sessions with state governments and NGOs raised new proposals that were agreed for inclusion. The draft was nearing submission to the Attorney-General's Chambers before the delay occurred. The bill aims to strengthen protection, welfare and rights of senior citizens as Malaysia approaches aged society status. Separately, Nancy said the ministry is ready to provide psychosocial support to Malaysians affected by Nepal floods.
