Malappuram Woman Becomes Third Malayali to Summit Everest

Suhrha Cherukappalli, a 41-year-old from Malappuram, has become the third Malayali to summit Mount Everest, completing the 8,849-meter climb on May 23 after a 44-day expedition that began April 9. Working as an HR consultant in Bengaluru, she overcame a failed summit attempt last year due to bad weather. She highlighted the extreme dangers of the "death zone" above 8,000 meters, where oxygen levels drop to a third, and emphasized the critical role of Sherpas in ensuring safety. The expedition cost between 42 and 70 lakh rupees. She also managed menstruation during the climb using a menstrual cup, and credited her partner, family, and friends for their full support.
