Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh will irrigate land via shared water

Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh signed an agreement to share water, enabling irrigation of over 234,000 hectares of land in Maharashtra. The Tapi Mega Recharge Project, costing ₹19,244 crore, will utilize water from the Tapi River. Maharashtra will use 19.37 TMC of water, primarily for irrigation in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra, while Madhya Pradesh will use 11.76 TMC. The project, initially conceived in 2000, aims to alleviate water shortages in several districts. Both states will seek central government funding for the project.
