Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 aims for single-use plastic free festival with eco-friendly initiatives

The 2025 Maha Kumbh will be the first to eliminate single-use plastic. The administration is distributing eco-friendly cloth bags and leaf plates, installing water dispensers, and mobilizing over 1,800 volunteers to promote sustainability. More than 90,000 postcards will be sent to parents, encouraging them to support a plastic-free event. The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste by an estimated 25,000 tonnes during the 45-day festival. Public support is strong, with over 50,000 people pledging to avoid single-use plastic. This reflects a growing awareness of environmental issues among both pilgrims and local residents.
