Maha Kumbh 2025 to see rise in new Naga sanyasis with 12000 initiations planned

In Maha Kumbh 2025, about 12,000 ascetics will become Naga sanyasis across various akharas. This marks a significant increase in the number of new Naga sadhus compared to previous events. The process begins with anointing by a guru, followed by 12 years of monitoring. New Naga sanyasis will undergo rituals, including a midnight puja and a ceremonial bath in the Ganga, before being accepted by their gurus. Major akharas like Juna and Niranjani will lead the initiation, with thousands of new Naga sanyasis expected. The rituals will culminate on Mauni Amavasya, a key date in the Kumbh calendar.
