Magdy El-Galad: Journalists Syndicate protection essential, proposes working group for digital journalists

masrawy.com (Arabic) —

Egyptian journalist Magdy El-Galad said he cannot practice journalism without the Journalists Syndicate's protection, proposing a focused working group to resolve the union coverage issue for digital journalists. He spoke at a syndicate discussion led by syndicate head Khaled El-Balshy. El-Galad, editor-in-chief of the "ONA" media institution, praised the syndicate's initiative to open dialogue on the matter, calling it a "destiny issue" for the profession. He proposed a 7-8 member working group, including syndicate council members and general assembly members, to study all aspects of the issue. The group would consult legal experts and hold hearings with stakeholders before drafting a proposal to present to the general assembly. El-Galad warned against creating too many committees, saying they could prolong discussions without reaching decisive results.
