Madhya Pradesh's uniform civil code faces potential tribal opposition

Madhya Pradesh is drafting a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), aiming for equal laws for all citizens, regardless of religion. The state's significant tribal population, comprising 21% of residents, presents a potential challenge to UCC implementation due to deeply embedded traditional customs. Similar to Gujarat and Uttarakhand, tribal communities may be exempted from the UCC, with a committee to study existing laws and advise on the draft.
