Madan B. Lokur, a former Supreme Court judge of India, has been appointed chairperson of the U.N. Internal Justice Council. His term will last until November 12, 2028. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment on December 19. The council includes other notable jurists from various countries. Justice Lokur served on the Supreme Court of India from 2012 to 2018 and was later appointed to the Supreme Court of Fiji. He is the first Indian judge to hold a position in another country's Supreme Court.
