Macerata mourns peacekeeper Andrea Angeli; Boldrini and Capuozzo attend funeral

Hundreds gathered in Macerata on Saturday to bid farewell to Andrea Angeli, a 69-year-old peacekeeper and diplomat, at a funeral in the church of Santa Croce, attended by former Chamber President Laura Boldrini and journalist Toni Capuozzo. Father Mariano Asunis, a military chaplain, led the service, praising Angeli for witnessing despair and death without losing his smile, and saying peace was not a goal but a way of inhabiting the world. Capuozzo recalled Angeli's humility, noting he never saw him cry but always consoling others. Angeli's career spanned diplomacy, international missions, and military and academic roles. Speakers included General Michele Risi and journalist Lao Petrilli, with a poem by Colonel Bruno Tammaro referencing Saint Francis, emphasizing Angeli's legacy would not be forgotten.
