Luxon defends New Zealand's climate change efforts during Samoa meeting
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon defended his coalition government's climate change efforts during a recent meeting in Samoa. He stated that the government is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and is on track with its targets. Luxon announced that the second five-year budget for carbon neutrality will be released by the end of the year. He emphasized that fast-tracking renewable energy projects has positioned New Zealand well, with 85 percent of its electricity coming from renewable sources. He also addressed criticism regarding his absence from the site of a navy ship sinking in Samoa, explaining he did not have time to visit but did engage with local officials at the New Zealand operation center.
