Lumma Stealer detections rise nearly 400% following RedLine takedown
Lumma Stealer malware detections surged by 369% in the second half of 2024, according to ESET. This increase follows the takedown of RedLine Stealer, which has led to a rise in other infostealers filling the gap. Lumma Stealer, which targets two-factor authentication extensions and cryptocurrency wallets, has become one of the top ten infostealers since its emergence in 2022. Meanwhile, Formbook has replaced Agent Tesla as a leading infostealer. ESET noted that the takedown of RedLine and LockBit ransomware has created vacuums in the cybercrime landscape, allowing new threats like RansomHub to gain prominence. Cybercriminals are adapting by finding new attack methods and exploiting security weaknesses.
