Luminate to label AI-generated music by year-end

Luminate announced Tuesday it will add labels for AI-generated music to its platform by the end of this year, making the tags visible to its clients and partners. The entertainment data company introduced a new framework for this initiative. The system will combine Luminate's identification technology with collaborations from major streaming services and AI music companies to determine which songs need labels. A "Generated by AI" tag will be added to identified tracks or artist profiles, with a dedicated review process for artists and labels to contest false positives. The move follows similar labeling plans from Apple Music and Spotify for late 2026, while Deezer began tagging fully AI-generated tracks in early 2025. Some platforms like Bandcamp and iHeartRadio have instead banned mostly AI-generated music, and Luminate CEO Rob Jonas emphasized no single organization can solve this challenge alone.
