Lufthansa and Indian airlines suspend Riyadh flights after explosions
Lufthansa and Air India have suspended flights to Riyadh after explosions, including a large blast at the Saudi capital's international airport, were reported Thursday. Over 275 flights were canceled at King Khalid International Airport, affecting 40% of arrivals and 30% of departures. Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility, saying a ballistic missile caused damage, though Saudi authorities had no immediate comment. The group later claimed additional missile and cruise missile attacks on airports in Riyadh and Najran, saying flights were disrupted. Lufthansa Group suspended flights to Riyadh through Oct. 16, while Air India canceled service until Saturday and budget carriers Akasa Air and IndiGo halted flights through the weekend. Flightradar24 reported the airport had closed again Thursday afternoon.
